At this time, there are no live televised Spanish Super Cup events but we show you a history with the TV guide of the last broadcast seen on television.
We will update this Spanish Super Cup agenda on TV when we receive confirmation from official media of the next live televised events of Spanish Super Cup.
Since the beginning of this website, 11 live televised events have been published.
The first event published was on Sunday 14 August 2016 and the channel that broadcast Spanish Super Cup matches the most times was Sky Sports Football with a total of 3.
The Spanish Super Cup is a direct elimination competition, organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation , which was founded in 1982 and is held annually. Before its creation, there were already several tournaments that faced the La Liga champions and Copa del Rey such as the Spanish Champions Cup, the FEF President Cup, the Argentine Gold Cup and the Eva Duarte Cup .
The current format faces four teams with semifinals and final in the same week. The participants of the event are the first two classified in La Liga and the two finalists in the Copa del Rey. If any of the classified clubs repeat a place, it goes to the next classified in the league competition that has not played the match for the cup title. In November 2019, the RFEF decreed that the next three editions would be held in Saudi Arabia.
For some years, if the champion of the two national competitions was the same, the Spanish Super Cup was not disputed and that team was declared the winner. In 1996 the regulations were modified and it was added that, in those circumstances, the rival would be the runner-up in La Liga. In 1986 and 1987 it was also not played after the competitors did not agree on the dates.
The 2018 edition was the first held outside the Iberian Peninsula. The tournament was decided as a single match, to avoid overloading the calendar, at the Tangier Stadium in Morocco . Furthermore, it was the first official match in Spain in which video arbitration (VAR) was used. Barcelona lifted the trophy by beating Sevilla by 1-2 thanks to the goals scored by Piqué and Dembélé.
The Spanish Super Cup 2020 was historic for several reasons. It was the first time that four teams had played it and in which clubs that had not won any title the previous season participated without the La Liga and Copa del Rey champion being the same. It happened to be disputed in the month of January instead of August. Real Madrid was proclaimed the winner after defeating Atlético de Madrid on penalties in the final. The other two participants were Valencia and Barcelona .
The one in 2021 was also scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia, but for health reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic it was held in Andalusia. Athletic beat Real Madrid in the semifinals and Barcelona in the final to win the title.
